Statement of Intent
For my
billboard, I will be advertising a new BBC Three comedy panel show, named
‘Would You Rather?’. I need to make sure I follow the rules around print
advertising, as set by the ASA (advertising standards authority). One of the
rules is to make sure the consumers are not being misled. To avoid this, I will
make sure my advert clearly shows that it is a comedy aimed at 16-25-year-olds.
This can be done by showing that it’s clearly a BBC three production and making
the billboard light-hearted and positive. According to TV broadcast rules, set
by OFCOM, the public must be protected from offensive material. To make sure I
follow this I need to set the tone of my shown appropriately by thinking about
the target audience and the timing of the showings. It will be shown before 9 so I need to make sure there aren't too many adult themes.
Since the
company this show is for is BBC Three, they will want their products and
audience to be represented in a certain way. The product itself will be
presented as a funny and high energy show.
The audience will see people a similar age to them on the show and will
be presented in a positive light, as creative and humorous. If the show has a
positive representation of young adults, it will be successful and attract more
young adults to watch it.
To help
appeal to this target audience of young adults, I also need to carefully
consider how to create my billboard. It needs to have a layout and include
images that will draw this peak this audience’s interest in the product. I will
most likely use a bright and vibrant colour scheme with a gripping tagline so
that I can attract their attention. The title, ‘Would You Rather?’ is something
familiar with the target audience so that will increase their interest in the
product.
