Popularity of comedy panel shows

-        -  Comedy panel shows are very popular in Britain and are partially responsible for an increase in people wanting comedy

-        -  As these shows grow, they become a place for comedians to gain popularity and make their name

-         Because of their popularity, these shows also get critics that claim the shows are too male – dominant and feature the same comedians repeatedly

Sweat the small stuff – BBC 3

·        A BBC 3 comedy panel show hosted by Nick Grimshaw that aired from 2013-2015 that includes questions and games based on 'the important things in life'.

·       Why is it popular?

BBC 3 has a younger target audience of roughly 18–25-year-olds, so having Nick Grimshaw as presenter will help bring that audience in as they are familiar with him. Having Kiss presenters as contestants will also draw in this audience for the same reason. The game is light-hearted and funny which is what this audience will most likely be popular.

Would I Lie to You? – BBC 1

·        A game show hosted by Rob Brydon where one person has to tell a story and the other team has to guess if it’s true or a lie

Why is it popular?

BBC 1 has a slightly older target audience than BBC 3 so celebrities and comedians like Rob Brydon will appeal to them as they are familiar with them. The concept gives guests and opportunity to be funny with their storytelling, even if they aren’t comedians. This makes the show much funnier and more enjoyable, so it rises in popularity.
